weird day indeed. during the break of a two hour lecture earlier, i approached my finance lecturer.

i told him honestly, that i'm about to ask him a non-academic question before proceeding.

i actually asked him when is the best time to sell my shares. and to my surprise, he was extremely helpful and even threw in some of the financial theories (that i have learnt) to support his comments.

i need a suit badly for three occasions (for this year alone).

chadstone had their VIP sale last night and no doubt most of the stores inside had pretty decent discounts/rebates.

i feel in love with this ted baker suit (immediately) and then disaster struck shortly.

i fitted into the 38R jacket well, but not the pants. so the personnel working there, got me the next successive size; 40R (which was too baggy, but the pants fitted me perfectly).

i tried to persuade them to let me "mix & match", but got shot down by the manager.

hence i ended up feeling disappointed and the hunt continues...

you decide to purchase six seasons of "two and a half men" at one go.

I have always wanted to watch this series but never found the time to do so.

the store which i purchased these from, had a very good (like extremely good) deal.

let's put in this way, iTunes Australia is currently selling one season for the price of this six seasons DVD set.

I'm gonna shower soon and then watch as much as I can, before the Germany and Spain game later.

for some obscure reason, i decided to travel almost 8 hours (back and forth) up mt buller for just a day trip.

it was sufficiently good. but i didn't snowboard/ski though.

however i'll be sure to go back in a couple of weeks time for snowboarding/skiing.

what a great evening, it was, last sunday.

jin decided to treat me and another korean bloke for helping up with his assignment, and he suggested kobe jones (i have not heard of this place until he brought it up).

we had the kobe jones luxury set and a bottle of sake.

the total bill came out to a cool AUD390 for three of us.

we took our own sweet time to consume everything in anticipation for the england germany game.

after the korean bloke had adequate time for his sake to 'simmer down', he drove us to a bar to watch the game live.

thanks to germany, i won AUD50 for putting a wager on them (and so did jin and the korean bloke as well)

this is my favourite spot to study whenever i'm in matheson's library, clayton.

matheson is segregated to two sections; main area and the annexe, and there are many entrances/exits.

however at approximately 9pm on weekdays (except fridays), the librarians will systematically shut the main area down, with only one entrance/exit (through the annexe).

hence, more often, you will get to see extremely nervous/panicked/clueless facial expressions (coupled with futile attempts to 'unlock' the door), when late users, find their typical entrance/exit (as shown in the picture above) is locked!

oh boy, i can be so mean at times...

i honestly, did not have the initial intention of purchasing an apple iPad.

however, the act of patronising tech forums/podcasts/news, really ticked me off to the dark side.

not to mention, three of my usual twitter peeps, kept jabbering and on and on about it.

but i decided to play it cool and leave it to whatever-whenever the situation takes me.

reading from the local forum, people started queuing up at the chadstone apple store from 4am onwards (it opens at 8 sharp) and despite being fairly unoccupied, i decided to stay put.

slept and woke up at half past 10 and attended an hour of lecture, took the public transportation to CBD (another hour)

first stop, myer bourke st and no luck with my desired variant; the WiFi + 3G (a little disappointed).

decided to walk to flinders st since the weather was pretty good and saw DFE on my left. popped by and was told that they have one last unit before the next shipment. that's it!

dropped by to the adjacent t[life] and was approached by a pleasant caucasian bloke (who coincidentally lined up for his iPad too during the wee morning) and telstra actually, for once, offered a very attractive and reasonable plan.

without any doubt, telstra has the most superior network in australia.

so much so, whenever we have a dinner outing back in malaysia, it will be korean typically.

and no surprise, in melbourne too...

we all had dinner in hallah, down in victoria st on saturday night.

weirdly enough, for the bbq bit, we have to roast the dishes by ourselves and it was an opportunity for SY to demonstrate her abilities.

even so, the korean waitress actually came over and praised her skills and added "you can cook better than me, and if you need a job, you can actually consider here".

i had lunch with the two sams (both bloke and gal) over the weekend. we ate in hakka (directly across the glen waverley station).

we had dimsum first and only proceeded to order more food as dimsum alone wasn't sufficient to fill up our void.

after that, on the way to the train station, i wanted to purchase a tube of liquid paper as my previous one was not working anymore.

hastily, without wanting to keep the two sams, waiting outside for me, i grabbed one and brought it to the cashier.

the following (an approximate) conversation ensue between myself, M and the cashier, C:

*C scans the barcode of the liquid paper*
C: wow, it's 5 dollars! that's very expensive
M: that's fine. i need one urgently for my work later
* i then proceeded to hand over a 10 dollar note and C stares at me like i'm some mad man*
C: are you sure that you wanna purchase this?
M: yes (both sams staring at me from outside)
C: the mart down the road, sells this for way cheaper

this cannot get any more weird. last night before descending to sleep, i thought it will be good to finish up my excessive offpeak internet quota by renting a movie (it is about 1.5 GB for a movie from iTunes).

so as i was scrolling down the list on the iTunes store and saw The Informant!, starring matt damon (i have been a fan since his jason bourne days). i opted for it and left the download to complete throughout the night.

hence to my pleasant surprise moments ago, as i logged on to my blackboard to obtain this week's lectures, i saw this header on one of my units;

i don't typically quote newspapers but this one certainly raised my eyebrows a little.

"The Chinese daily also highlighted an article criticising Singaporean women for being snobbish and not wanting to date men who earned less than they did no matter how good looking they were.

The article claimed that in a survey, it was found that Singaporean women found a man earning S$8,000 (RM19,200) sexy, even if he was ugly in real life.

it was a steamboat dinner in guise of the easter celebration (and hence the easter rabbit and chocolates)

after desert, we proceeded to have a cashless gambling session, in which we swapped cash in lieu for whiskey shots.

i'm feeling cold and enduring extreme muscle aches at the moment, and I'm wrapped, tucked under my down-filled duvet all day long.

since my brother and i typically share our grocery costs together, we have to endure this painful task; to decide who has to fork out the cash upfront at the checkout counter

worse, by the end of the month, a laborious task of splitting the cost equally.

hence we came out with this ingenious idea of purchasing two gift cards (of identical value) and we each get to keep one.

we will continue swiping these cards until we erm, essentially run out of e-cash.

(and did i mention that, i despise the idea of carrying bulky coins around? with this card, i will get to pay the exact amount each transaction)

p.s.: the baby themed card is so gorgeous looking right? =)

what an experience yesterday!

i would have much regretted if i have decided to stay put in my room throughout the ordeal.

was on the way to chadstone to catch alice in wonderland (3D), when it all started.

here are ten pictures to illustrate my 'experience'

i had sort of like a farewell slash CNY meetup before i flew back for melbourne.

anyway the usual crowd was there for the dinner beforehand and more of teng's friend popped over for a cash-less gambling session.

last two pictures attached, were actually deceptive as they didn't highlight the actual atmosphere as they were snapped during the first quarter of the session.

the room got really noisy and packed an hour later and i was too distracted to take anymore pictures thereafter (or rather paranoid that my LX3 might be knocked down by accident and kept it away swiftly)

so the term starts, which subsequently leads to massive monday blues.

spent 2 nights in kedah (mandatory family visits - both sides) and the next 2 nights in penang (part of my family's own trip before my brother and i fly back to melbourne)

and yes, my hometown is as authentic as it can get, with the hen and her chick tagging along.

met up with jacky and calvin in penang. had the famous cendol (which is well known to many)

singapore trip part 1 (out of three)

this singapore trip is possibly my only one, throughout my summer vacation and i vowed to make it (at least) memorable.

hence i have decided to go all the way, by splurging on a decent hotel - park hotel clarke quay (recommended by my local friends) and flying to singapore instead.

i hopped on the plane moments after my IELTS paper (result forecasted to be released this friday though).

i will attempt to divide this trip into 3 separate posts for simplicity sake.

tomorrow will be in fact, my last day over here in ACN.

i'm actually a week shy to complete a full 3 months programme (the contract got extended for another month, as opposed to just two).

i can't really describe how i feel at the moment, in an articulate manner, as i'm actually getting mixed feelings.

anyway, that issue aside, i do have three pictures from a recent outing; where 2 singaporean gals came down for a visit.

i actually didn't know or heard of them prior to this as they were suppose to tag along with xin (another singaporean gal, whom i have known since my cardiff days). xin couldn't make it due to some unforeseeable circumstances.

hence, i sort of like played host to them (which turns out to be a good thing because they practically carried out the same duty when i was there over the weekend).

and yes, i got the pictures in a printed manner (something which i have not heard of, for ages) and i had to scan them, to incorporate them in this post.

the first picture was taken in neroteca and yum, they do serve some really good food over there.

no prize for guessing the location of the subsequent pictures... *did i hear lunabar?*

no doubt that it has become like a major tourist hotspot (at least for me, when i need to bring out-of-town peeps, to a chill out spot)

* edited: i found an additional three pictures from my iPhone. however such a shame, neroteca possesses a rather dim ambiance and hence contributing to the inferior pictures.

just got back from gardens (again!)

the showcase was obviously good, and coupled with the fact that it was procured for free, and hence giving the experience an added-on value.

had dinner in fong lye (just a floor down the showcase venue) before adjourning to the stipulated venue.

just a quick note: from now onwards, i will attempt to feature more pictures from the LX3, as opposed to, just the iPhone alone.

i have always been complaining that my current point & shoot / camera phone isn't sufficient for my consumption.

hence, coupled with my pay from the internship programme, i have managed to accrue adequately to fund my purchase of the highly acclaimed panasonic lumix LX3.

the pictures taken from this device, is absolutely breath-taking (albeit its small size) and i shall be posting them shortly.

fingers crossed, if i reckon that LX3 is (again) insufficient in the future, i can finally upgrade to a full fledged DSLR.
